Newcastle Sources: Significant Gomes update tonight

Newcastle United are keen on a potential swoop for breakthrough England star Angel Gomes, sources at the club have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the Magpies are just one of several English clubs to hold a “concrete interest” in the Lille midfielder.

Gomes recently received his first England call-up from interim boss Lee Carsley and featured in games against Ireland and Finland.

He has raised his profile at home with his performances in those games and a potential return to the Premier League could now be on the cards for the 24-year-old.

It is believed clubs across Europe are also monitoring the Man United academy graduate’s situation.

Gomes’ contract with Lille is set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Gomes is a Newcastle target after England breakthrough

He has already made five appearances for the French side this term and helped them qualify to the league phase of the Champions League.

The London-born ace can play in attacking and defensive midfield and has been a regular for Lille since joining four years ago.

Newcastle are just one of the Premier League sides ready to swoop for Gomes, who won the Under-17 World Cup and Under-21 European Championships with England in his youth.

The Magpies are without continental football in the 2024-25 campaign and could lose out on the midfielder if more established sides firm up their interest.
