Newcastle to put all their cash into 'major' contract offer for Everton star - report

Newcastle look set to put all of their money into a contract offer to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer from Everton, according to Alan Nixon.

The journalist reported to his Patreon on 29 December that the Magpies are reluctant to pay “a big fee” for the 27-year-old in January.

This could see Eddie Howe’s side put all of their cash into “a major contract offer” to secure a free transfer for the striker whose contract expires in June.

Many supporters on the blue side of Merseyside are now resigned to the fact that the one-cap England international will depart either in January or in the summer.

The former Sheffield United man has been linked with a move away from the Toffees for many months and appears reluctant to sign a new contract.

There have been many links to clubs in Europe but a deal to remain in the Premier League with Newcastle may be an attractive prospect.

If the St James’ Park club are willing to put all their eggs in the Calvert-Lewin basket in January to sign the striker on a free transfer, a deal could soon be struck.

Given that the forward has scored just two Premier League goals this campaign, this doesn’t appear to be much of a blow to Sean Dyche’s side.

The financial side of this deal will be frustrating as the Toffees will receive no fee while losing their starting number nine which will represent an issue in the transfer market.
