'Fantastic' - Wenham hails Levy as Tottenham youngster leaves club

John Wenham has hailed Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy after the club confirmed the departure of Jude Soonsup-Bell.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims that allowing the 20-year-old to leave the club was “fantastic business”.

It was confirmed via the club’s official website on Thursday (22 August) that Soonsup-Bell had left Tottenham to join Spanish Segunda Division side Córdoba CF.

As reported by BBC Sport (22 August), Spurs have included a 40 per cent sell-on clause in the free transfer.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is delighted with this confirmed move.

“I’m not surprised that he has left the club,” Wenham said.

“Although he did magnificently well last season, Spurs basically signed him for nothing when he came from Chelsea.

“They have now ensured that if he develops into a top player, they will bank 40 per cent of any future sale. That is fantastic business from Levy and the club.

“He could soon become a La Liga player and be sold on for a sizeable fee, who knows. From Spurs’ point of view, they have several young talents coming through and it is about moving players on at the right time.”

Soonsup-Bell enjoyed a positive 2023/24 season with Spurs’ Under-21s. However, with the number of exciting young talents on the books at Tottenham, competition for places is fierce.

Competing with the likes of Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear for first-team minutes always seemed as though it would be difficult.

Therefore, a permanent transfer away from North London was probably the best outcome for the youngster.

From Tottenham’s point of view, allowing him to leave for free but with a sizeable sell-on clause included in the deal could be viewed as a stroke of genius in the years to come.

As a result, it would be difficult not to offer Levy some credit after this confirmed transfer.
