Nick Pope may not play for Newcastle United again after the latest update on his fitness, some supporters now fear.

The goalkeeper has been first choice for the Magpies when fit and available ever since he joined the club from Burnley in the summer of 2022, though he did miss a long spell last season through injury.

Up until now he has played every minute of football in the Premier League for Eddie Howe’s side this season.

However, that is now set to change following the latest update on his fitness, which a number of Newcastle supporters believe will have lasting implications for his future with the club.

In Saturday (7 December) Pope suffered a knee injury during his side’s 4-2 defeat away at Brentford which has prompted some discussion about manager Eddie Howe’s position at the club.

Sky Sport reporter Keith Downie has revealed that blow is set to keep him out for up to a month, with either Odysseas Vlachodimos or Martin Dubravka due to replace him against Leicester at the weekend.

Taking to social media to react to that news, some Newcastle fans suggested that may mean they have seen the last of Pope as a key man for their side.

Others were left to lament the injury record of both the “cursed” club and the goalkeeper, with some worried about the options they are now left with between the posts, while suggesting the timeframe of his absence will prove to be far greater.
