Steven Davis sent his best wishes to Connor Goldson after it was confirmed on Tuesday that the defender had ended his six-year spell at Rangers.

Goldson, 31, has joined Cypriot club Aris Limassol on a three-year deal after 309 appearances, a Scottish Premiership title and a Scottish Cup win in Glasgow.

The Wolverhampton-born defender took to his personal Instagram account on Tuesday (30 July) to issue a heartfelt goodbye to Rangers fans, leading to a spate of comments from those he played with at Ibrox.

Ex-Gers and Northern Ireland midfielder Davis was among those to reply, saying: “All the best to you and the family, Connor.

“[You] conducted yourself with class throughout and gave it everything.”

Ross McCausland, Leon Balogun, Robbie Fraser, Cedric Itten, Glen Kamara and Andy Firth also commented on Goldson’s post.

Rangers bid farewell to long-serving Goldson

It’s a bit sad to see Goldson leaving Rangers but at the same time, this is what the club has needed for some time now.

Philippe Clement is being understandably ruthless with Goldson joining Ryan Jack, John Lundstram, Kemar Roofe and Borna Barisic as mainstays to leave Ibrox this summer.

James Tavernier could also go amid speculation linking him with a move away [Yağız Sabuncuoğlu], which means that Ianis Hagi – who could also go this summer – would be left as the long-serving player after he joined from Genk in the summer of 2020.

And then even Hagi does leave, Scott Wright is next in line and there’s also been a bit of talk about him this summer.

The longest-serving player to have not been linked with a move away is John Souttar – and he signed form Hearts in 2022.

Clement is serious about this rebuild but he needs to start bringing some more players in because while it’s great to see foreign imports arriving that could have tremendous resale value, there’s got to be some players also coming in who are seasoned experts in the Scottish Premiership.

Signing Lawrence Shankland is an absolute must to spearhead this team.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues are in talks with a Premier League club over a deal to bring in another new signing with a seven-figure asking price.
