Tam McManus has applauded the fact that Rangers have issued lifetime bans to four supporters following an incident before the game against St Johnstone.
Sky Sports reported on 19 August, after speaking to a spokesperson from the club, that Gers have reached out to the St Johnstone supporter liaison officer who was assaulted and robbed prior to the match at Hampden Park on 17 August.
McManus believes that there is no place for that in society, let alone football.
He wrote on X: “No place for that in society never mind football.”
Rangers do the right thing by taking instant action
Gers’ decision to issue lifetime bans to the supporters involved in the assault on a St Johnstone liaison officer is a commendable step towards maintaining the integrity of football as a sport that should be enjoyed by all without fear of violence or intimidation.
Such actions not only tarnish the reputation of the club but also undermine the community spirit that football aims to foster.
By taking decisive action, Rangers sent a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated, reinforcing the idea that football clubs are responsible for the conduct of their supporters.
This incident highlights the broader issue of hooliganism in football and clubs must actively combat this through stringent policies and cooperation with law enforcement.
It’s crucial for the culture of the game to evolve, ensuring that stadiums are safe environments where everyone, regardless of age or gender, can feel secure.
Hopefully, such bans dissuade people from doing something like that again or else more stringent measures will need to be implemented.
In other Rangers news, the club are now mooted to secure the services of a £4.2m full-back in loan-to-buy deal and he’s set to leave in a few days.
