'We deserved more': Arsenal excuses coming to the fore as David Raya makes claim about Chelsea

Arsenal’s title challenge has ran into a bit of a hiccup in recent weeks but David Raya has played the card of saying his team deserved more in recent fixtures.

The Gunners lost at Newcastle and drew at Chelsea in the Premier League, while they also tasted defeat in the Champions League at Inter Milan.

Indeed, it’s now been four Premier League games without a win for Arsenal, and they now sit some nine points off table-toppers Liverpool after just 11 games.

Of course, William Saliba saw red against Bournemouth which compounded the poor run, while Liverpool and City have kept on picking up points.

However, according to goalkeeper Raya, Arsenal actually deserved more from two of those poor results.

David Raya claims Arsenal deserved more against Chelsea and Newcastle

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo while out on international duty with Spain, Raya has said he is refusing to panic over Arsenal’s inconsistent form.

Indeed, Raya has even suggested that in two games at least, Arsenal deserved more.

“We have shown last year and this season, although we have not started as we would have liked, especially the last two games due to the circumstances of the matches, with very difficult away games with one man less,” Raya said.

“We must not make excuses and we must move forward. We deserved more against Chelsea and Newcastle, but we will continue in the same vein, correcting errors and looking forward with a very good group that we can do anything. We will be in the fight to lift the Premier League.”

Raya says no excuses but this sounds like typical Arsenal

Arsenal have done brilliantly well under Mikel Arteta and can probably count themselves unlucky not to have won the title at some point.

However, there is also an element of Arsenal feeling sorry for themselves at times while the reality is that poor discipline and poor decisions cost them dearly.

Saliba’s red was an example of this, while we saw last season they imploded at times as well.

Right now, Raya and his Arsenal teammates need to focus on getting back to winning ways and putting any sort of secondary reasons out of the question.
