Everton defender Michael Keane admits there’s “no way” he could do what Dominic Calvert-Lewin does despite his top-corner strike against Ipswich Town on Saturday (19 October).
The defender cemented the Toffees’ lead against the Premier League new boys by coolly placing the ball into the top-left corner after a stellar assist from Dwight McNeil.
His finish was among the best seen in the top flight this season, but while speaking to the Liverpool ECHO (21 October), the centre-back said he doesn’t think he’d be able to do what Calvert-Lewin does for the team as a striker.
“In terms of being a striker myself, not really, no. It sounds good and I feel like I’d enjoy it, but in reality, I’m not sure I could do that role,” he said.
“It’s a really hard role to play and putting chances away is only one part of it. You look at all the work Dom does – there’s no way I could do that.”
Everton have finally found some consistent Premier League form
Everton have had a rather topsy-turvy season thus far. The Toffees have managed to bag themselves eight points from a possible 12 in their last four top-flight clashes, which is a massive difference to where they found themselves at the start of the campaign.
There have been times this season when fans have called for the head of Sean Dyche, but the club stuck by him and things seem to be working out for the better.
The Merseyside outfit are now 16th in the table, five points clear from the drop zone. This may not seem like much but if you’d have asked Everton fans after their 3-2 losses against Bournemouth or Aston Villa if they’d like to be 16th by game week nine, they’d have likely snapped your hands off.
The January transfer window is just around the corner, and with the impending integration of Armando Broja, it feels like things can only go in an upward trajectory from here on out.
Which, for Toffees fans, will be a huge sigh of relief, especially after their last couple of seasons of turmoil.
