Everton fans will surely ignore the words of Claudio Ranieri as the former Premier League boss questioned The Friedkin Group’s ownership of AS Roma and the sacking of Daniele De Rossi.

Dan Friedkin has been widely critiqued for his handling of the Serie A side in light of his proposed takeover of the Blues.

However, given the years of financial mismanagement under Farhad Moshiri, the American represents a significant upgrade in stewardship.

Ranieri, who won arguably the most historic Premier League title with Leicester City in 2016, issued a stark attack on the Friedkins over the decision to sack De Rossi, as relayed by Football Italia [21 October].

He said: “Roma seem to have a cold soul without personality. I didn’t understand what [the owners] did with De Rossi.

“When you confirm him with a three-year contract, you tell the world you are building a new team. At that point, you must give time to the coach, you can’t sack him after four rounds.

“Roma lack a leading figure. You can’t blame the Friedkins because they’ve invested a lot of money, but they are proving that money is not everything.

“They miss a reference point inside the club. Roma is a unique place; the fans must be helped and supported, but there seems to be coldness now.”

Dan Friedkin will be a significant improvement on Farhad Moshiri at Everton

There is not one Everton fan who can be convinced The Friedkin Group should not assume ownership of the club as the turbulent sale will soon be finalised.

A new era awaits the Blues once the ownership situation is resolved as the side prepares to give Goodison Park the send-off it deserves ahead of the move to Bramley-Moore Dock at the end of the season.

Friedkin is expected to ring in the changes on Merseyside, with Sean Dyche’s days as manager set to be numbered, regardless of how the side performs in the Premier League.

The prospective owners are reportedly set to restructure the Toffees from top to bottom, with former Roma chief executive Lina Souloukou in the frame to take up a new position at Everton [Corriere dello Sport].

Some Evertonians may heed the warning of Ranieri, with the fanbase notoriously known for scepticism, but they should fear not.

TFG has turned around the fortunes of Roma since assuming control in 2020 – criticism or not – and seemingly the group is arriving on Merseyside with a clear plan of where to take the Blues.

In the aftermath of the drama between John Textor and TFG, all the supporters want now is for Moshiri to pack his bags and for a fresh start and no words from anyone in football regardless of their credentials will change their minds.

In other Everton news, Michael Keane shares an admission on Calvert-Lewin at the Toffees, “no way I could do that”.
