Philippe Clement may still face action from the Scottish Football Association over comments made following the Rangers versus Celtic cup final.
The Belgian was angered that the Gers were not awarded a penalty in extra-time for a Liam Scales shirt pull on Vaclav Cerny, which has caused plenty of debate.
Speaking after the penalty-shootout loss in the Scottish League Cup final on 15 December, Clement asked journalists to do some digging into exactly why the pen was not given.
As journalist Hugh Keevins wrote in his Daily Record column [22 December], Clement bayed to conspiracy theorists by providing more fuel to those who suggest the decision was down to bias against Rangers.
Asked about Clement’s comments, ex-FIFA official Hackett exclusively told Ibrox News: “[Clement] is allowed to write to a letter, or pick up the phone to the FA and Collum, if he’s not happy.
“Collum would no doubt have agreed to meet him. The point here is that, if you question the integrity of a match official, which these comments appear to, it’s down to the Scottish FA to take action on the manager’s comments.
“It’s not good enough. Referees don’t question errors made by players. The channels in place are there for him to express his concerns. These comments don’t help with the integrity of the competition. It’s a crass statement that shouldn’t have been made.”
Philippe Clement has every right to be furious after Rangers loss v Celtic
More than a week may have passed since the Celtic loss, but that is not to say the matter has been brushed entirely under the carpet.
Willie Collum, to his defence, acted swiftly in axing the two officials at the heart of the controversial moment at Hampden Park.
That does not change the fact that Rangers were robbed, though, and Clement was clearly a frustrated man post-match.
Rangers are now focusing on league matters, with the games coming thick and fast, but the fallout from the cup final loss will not go away for a while longer yet.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton aimed a dig at Robbie Savage over a comment made live on BBC.
