O'Rourke Exclusive: Everton hold £25m bid would be accepted

Everton have learned Leeds United will accept a £25million bid for Wilfried Gnonto before 31st August, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Toffees have held talks with Leeds to see if they can reach an agreement before the transfer window closes.

However, there has yet to be a breakthrough in talks as the Yorkshire club are no longer under pressure to sell.

Nonetheless, Leeds do have a price they will sell at for Gnonto and that is now believed to be the £25m mark.

The departures of Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray earlier this summer mean they will not be forced to lower their demands for Gnonto.

Questions have also emerged over Everton’s ability to afford the deal as their financial state remains up in the air given the uncertainty surrounding a takeover and PSR.

Everton remain in the hunt to sign Wilfried Gnonto from Leeds United

Everton have been long-term admirers of the Italian winger after failing to secure his signing last summer despite the player going on strike to force through a move.

Leeds have remained steadfast in their demands of £25million and are unwilling to negotiate a lower price after losing several key players.

The departures of Gray and Summerville have put them into a strong financial position, but also mean Daniel Farke is reluctant to see another star man leave.

After Summerville’s exit, Football Insider revealed Leeds would target a move for Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe as they look to improve their squad depth.

However, should Gnonto follow his fellow winger out of the door, they could be forced to move quickly in their pursuit of Rowe.

Everton, meanwhile, have completed the loan signing of Jesper Lindstrom already this summer and are now looking to add further quality to their attacking line.

New wingers have been the priority for Sean Dyche this summer, and Gnonto has risen to the top of their shortlist.
