O'Rourke: Tottenham free up 'huge' money for January signing

Tottenham have made money available for a centre-back signing in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (12 November) that manager Ange Postecoglou is desperate to bring a new centre-back to the club.

Spurs had been keen to land a new defensive signing in the summer window but could not complete a deal for their top targets.

Since then, injury to Micky van de Ven has proved problematic with Radu Dragusin moving into the side and not performing to expectations.

Van de Ven is set to return to action following the international break this month and will resume his partnership with World Cup winner Cristian Romero.

Versatile defender Ben Davies was kept on past the end of the summer transfer window but has only been trusted to play in the Europa League so far this term.

Tottenham make ‘huge’ funds available for centre-back deal

Tottenham are short in the centre-back area and sources say they have made “huge” funds available to rectify that situation in the new year.

Spurs moved Joe Rodon, Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga on in the summer but failed to add to their defensive ranks despite an increased schedule due to their involvement in the Europa League.

Tottenham sit 10th in the Premier League and return to top-flight action against Man City on 23 November.

The Lilywhites are well-placed to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League after winning three of their first four continental fixtures this term.
