Michael Stewart was almost speechless as Rangers star John Souttar helped Scotland to an important 2-1 win over Poland on Monday.
Securing their play-off spot to remain in Nations League Group A, the 28-year-old delivered a pin-point cross for Liverpool’s Andy Robertson to head home in the 92nd minute on 18 November.
Souttar had previously helped the Scots to claim an impressive 1-0 win over Croatia last time out before playing a crucial role in the final minutes of the win in Warsaw.
Speaking live via Viaplay on Monday (18 November, 9:35pm), Stewart said: “What a ball from John Souttar. It’s another outstanding performance from the defender, and what a finish from the captain.
“What a goal – look at that ball from Souttar. I thought he was absolutely outstanding tonight.”
John Souttar continues impressive streak away from Rangers
Souttar has been an important figure for Steve Clarke’s side during the international break, but that will come as no surprise to those at Ibrox who watch him every week.
While the Gers have really struggled in the Scottish Premiership, seeing a nine-point gap open up on Old Firm rivals Celtic and Aberdeen, the centre-back has remained strong at the back.
With Robin Propper dropping out of the starting XI in recent weeks, Souttar has formed a solid partnership with Leon Balogun, though many viewed him as just a backup.
Whichever centre-half he has been paired with this season, Souttar always looks to be the more confident out of the two and has solved many defensive problems so far.
Of course, Clement would love for none of his players to go away on international duty in case of potential injuries, much like Neraysho Kasanwirjo, he will be glad to see some of his players return in top form.
In other Rangers news, sources in Belgium have shared a new Philippe Clement job update as his Ibrox exit is mooted.
