'Why should he leave?' - King claims 'big money' Tottenham star could refuse transfer exit

Bryan King claims Sergio Reguilón won’t be in any rush to leave Tottenham.

The ex-Spurs scout doesn’t see why the Spaniard should accept a move to a club where he would be earning less money.

As reported in the Sunday People’s print edition (8 September, page 53), Tottenham want to send Reguilón to Turkey before the Süper Lig transfer window closes on Friday (13 September).

However, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think the player himself will be pushing for a move.

“Reguilón still has another year left on his contract with the club,” King said.

“Therefore, why should he leave? This is where players and their agents can control a transfer.

“He doesn’t have to leave, but it would mean him missing a year of senior football. If he is wise, and his agent is wise, he is at an age where he will want to be playing regularly.

“However, he is on very big money at Tottenham and it depends on whether or not a Turkish club can match that. Why should he leave for less money? He holds the cards.”

Reguilón has no future under Ange Postecoglou. Therefore, it is very likely that he won’t play a minute of senior football this season should he remain in North London.

However, he might also have no interest in moving to Turkey.

As a result, despite the footballing sacrifice, the 27-year-old might be more than happy to sit around and collect a rather lucrative wage, which would be a disaster for Spurs.

Reguilón would then be in a position to agree a pre-contract with overseas clubs from January, which would likely be very rewarding for him financially.

As a result, the incentive likely isn’t there for the player to leave Tottenham right now, and if the club want to avoid taking a financial hit, they will need to come up with a creative solution quickly.
