John Wenham: 'Huge' boost for Tottenham v Arsenal, player who's 9/10 every week out for Arteta

John Wenham claims Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice’s absence against Tottenham is “huge”.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the England international is one of Arsenal’s “best three players”.

Rice is suspended for the North London derby on Sunday (15 September) after he was sent off in a 1-1 draw with Brighton at the Emirates (31 August).

Martin Ødegaard could also be set to miss out after picking up an injury while in action for Norway during their 2-1 win over Austria on Monday (9 September).

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has detailed just how big of a boost this could be for Spurs.

“In terms of Ødegaard, I’m not going to get carried away just yet,” Wenham said.

“However, he is a fantastic player for Arsenal. Therefore, if both he and Rice were missing, that would be two of their best three players gone.

“Rice is definitely unavailable. That is huge, I think he is a fantastic player who just brings so much to the table and puts in a nine out of 10 performance every week.

“Him and Ødegaard both being out would boost Spurs’ chances and be hugely beneficial. However, we will probably have to wait until Mikel Arteta’s press conference for more information on that, and even then, he might not be forthcoming.”

Declan Rice to miss out for Arsenal against Tottenham

Spurs have not made the best of starts to the season. After three matches played, Ange Postecoglou’s side have just four points on the board.

Therefore, this North London derby is huge and could offer Tottenham a perfect chance to kickstart their season.

Rice missing out is a big blow for Arteta, and Postecoglou will need to ensure he and his players take advantage of that absence.
