'Perfect': Lee Dixon seriously impressed by 'towering' £55m man Arsenal almost signed at Euro 2024

Lee Dixon couldn’t help but notice the strong credentials of a forward at Euro 2024 who Arsenal recently failed to sign.

As well as the tournament representing a chance for Mikel Arteta and his staff to scout new Arsenal targets, it’s also particularly interesting for the club’s supporters to catch a better glimpse of those who the club have been linked with.

With England playing against Serbia in their opening game at Euro 2024, plenty of Arsenal fans will have enjoyed a closer look at Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic.

The 24-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal before he chose to take his goal-scoring to Turin.

And despite being at one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs, links between Vlahovic and Arsenal haven’t really stopped.

Of course, in a pretty coincidental turn of events, England also have another striker strongly linked with Arsenal in their group, Slovenia’s Benjamin Sesko.

And whilst it once looked like Arsenal were in pole position to enjoy Sesko’s football at the Emirates next season, he’ll now be staying with RB Leipzig for another year at least.

Arsenal retain long-term interest in Sesko, but he will no longer be an option for Arteta or Edu this summer.

That being said, whilst watching Sesko against Vlahovic at Euro 2024 on Thursday, former Arsenal man Lee Dixon was blown away by the Slovenian’s attributes.

Watching the game for ITV Football, Dixon proclaimed that Sesko was the ‘perfect height’ for a centre-forward, someone he would surely enjoy Arsenal pursuing in the future.

Speaking early in the first half of Slovenia vs Serbia, Dixon said: “He doesn’t half look impressive Sesko, just as an athlete.

“He is the absolute perfect height for a centre forward. He is towering above the Serbian defenders.”

Of course, that dominant frame must have been a key part of Arsenal’s interest, a player thought to have a ton of untapped potential.

But ultimately, in a similar move to Erling Haaland biding his time at Dortmund in the past, Sesko decided the Bundesliga was the best place to make progress for now.

The striker has scored 18 goals in all competitions across his last two campaigns, and whilst those are not numbers to be scoffed at, there’s evidently room for improvement.

All that being said, Arsenal are now interested in signing a Brazilian forward in the Premier League.
