Philippe Clement could quit Rangers after new twist, he's 'not happy' - pundit

Philippe Clement could walk away from Rangers as frustrations continue to build surrounding the club’s financial issues.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson explained that the boss is unhappy at the club and was not made aware of the financial situation before he joined.

Clement recently spoke out to confirm that almost every player at the club would be up for sale as they need to sell players before they can move in the transfer market.

However, he insisted that Butland was one player he was not willing to let go, leading to suggestions that he could quit if the board opted to cash in on the goalkeeper.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that Clement is at odds with the board as concerns and pressure continue to rise at Ibrox.

As tensions at Ibrox continue to rise between the board, the fans and the manager, any early hopes of a successful season have been dampened.

A lack of action in the transfer market and the financial issues behind the scenes have led to further scrutiny of the club’s position.

Robinson insists Clement is “not happy” and “not comfortable” with the situation, and could be pushed into leaving if the board defy his wishes.

“You can read between the lines of his comments,” he told Football Insider.

“You can say he already knew about the situation before he took over, but from my point of view, he wasn’t aware that all of his players would be for sale.

“He’s put a £30million price tag on Jack Butland, that would be a record transfer and that would be highly unlikely for a goalkeeper.

“If anybody was to test the waters with a bid for Butland and he ended up leaving the club, the manager’s future could be brought into question.

“He’s been put in a situation which he’s not happy with and not comfortable with.

“He’s going into a new season not knowing what squad he’s going to be working with and not knowing if there are any transfers coming in.

“All of his players are for sale but by saying Butland isn’t for sale, that could be a real statement to the board. He could say ‘If he’s going, I’m going’.

“It’ll be very interesting to see, if a bid does arrive for Butland, what the board will do.

“I don’t think Clement is happy there. He’s not going to be happy that he could lose his best players.”
