Phillips snubs overseas offers as Everton move for deal, Man City ready to loan - report

Kalvin Phillips has had offers to move aboard but wants to stay in the Premier League where Everton are working to sign him, The Times reports.

According to the paper’s website on 13 August the Toffees have made an enquiry at the Etihad, as have Fulham and Ipswich Town.

Manchester City would prefer to sell him permanently but are now willing to send the former Leeds United star out on loan again, after a nightmare half-season at West Ham last term.

Phillips needs a new start after that move and would prefer to resurrect his career in the English top flight.

Sean Dyche wants to replace Amadou Onana at Everton

The planets look they might be starting to align for Sean Dyche to land Phillips as his replacement for Amadou Onana, after the Belgian star moved to Aston Villa.

The City misfit is a long-term target for the Toffees boss [i News, 12 August] who is currently set to start youngster Tim Iroegbunam in central midfield for the Premier League opener against Brighton.

While some would surely be reticent to push for Phillips after the 28-year-old’s difficulties over the past two seasons it appears Dyche is convinced he is the man to help him rebound.

The ex-England regular is thought to be ready to play for the Goodison manager [TEAMtalk, 22 July] and if City are now open to a loan deal the door is surely open for a late move to Merseyside since a permanent transfer would likely have been risky and difficult to afford.

Ipswich and Fulham may be able to convince him otherwise but Dyche is believed to see the short move to Everton as beneficial for Phillips after his last trip south didn’t work out last season [Mirror, 28 May].

If the midfielder has already had offers from abroad which he hasn’t taken it would seem like the Toffees might be the ideal opportunity for him.

In other Everton news, a Sky Sports journalist has shared an update on Toffees links to a striker with a £400million-plus release clause.
