Everton transfer target Tammy Abraham has suggested that he would be open to leaving Roma this summer if the club’s owners decide to sell him.

Speaking after the Serie A team drew 1-1 with the Toffees at Goodison Park in Sean Dyche’s side’s final pre-season friendly on Saturday (10 August), Abraham said his future could come down to what Roma’s owners want to do.

Abraham has routinely been linked with making a move back to England with the Blues [Sebastien Vidal, 11 August], particularly with doubts continuing to arise over the future of out-of-contract striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Goodison.

In quotes reported by the Liverpool Echo (13 August), Abraham said: “Right now I am still here so that is the plan. Whatever the owners decide to do I am all ears. My focus is to get my head down here and help the team.”

Tammy Abraham transfer would give Everton upgrade up front

Although he’s not won a single England cap since 2022, Abraham has shown throughout his career that when fit, he will happily score double-figures worth of goals for any side he plays in.

Unfortunately for the 26-year-old, he is coming off the back of a bit-part campaign after a lengthy ACL injury lay-off – casting doubt over whether he’ll be able to get back to the levels he’s shown previously.

A top-level striker is certainly what the Toffees will need if Calvert-Lewin does make a move away from Goodison before the transfer deadline [Dharmesh Sheth, 12 August], and Abraham could still prove to be that.

The uncertainty surrounding Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation could result in the Blues having to stick or twist regarding their number nine, and if they choose to do the latter, Abraham is arguably an upgrade.

With Roma owned by Dan Friedkin, who recently pulled out of talks to take over at Goodison Park, sealing a transfer could be relatively straightforward – but the question over whether the Toffees will pursue a transfer is anything but.

In other Everton news, the Toffees could be in dreamland if a joint-ownership takeover bid involving Roma comes to pass.
