Pundit backs Sunderland ace to 'really flourish under Ange' as Tottenham linked with deal

Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham will already be considering his next move amid recent transfer links with Tottenham, according to Alan Hutton.

The younger brother of Real Madrid star Jude, Jobe has enjoyed a superb first full season of senior football at the Stadium of Light this season, making 45 Championship appearances following his move from Birmingham City.

Reports suggest that the 18-year-old’s performances have caught the eye of a number of teams in the Premier League including Spurs and Crystal Palace, but the Black Cats are desperate to keep him in the North East this summer [The Guardian, 3 June].

Although Hutton is reluctant to compare Jobe to his Champions League-winning brother, he admits that Ange Postecoglou’s attacking style of play would ensure that a move to North London would get the best out of the midfielder.

“I think he could freshen up the midfield,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.

“For his age, he’s got a lot of football under his belt at Sunderland. They’re a big club by the way with big expectations as well so I think that will stand him in good stead moving forward.

“He’s probably looking thinking where is my next progression? He’s seen his brother achieve what he has, I’m not going to put the two of them together because I know that will happen all the time, but he’s definitely got potential because he’s very young still.

“I think in a team like Ange’s who want to play on the front foot and want to play the ball forward quickly, it will suit him so I think that takes him to the next level and he’ll grow as a player.

“He’ll have seen the steps that Jude has made throughout his career. He’s always moved at the right time.

“He’s got a good family behind him and they’ll be making the same steps with his younger brother so if he goes to a club like Tottenham I think he could really flourish under Ange within that team.”

Will Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou enter the Jobe Bellingham race during the summer transfer window?

Most Spurs fans would like to see Postecoglou strengthen the backline and attacking areas of the field before adding to the midfield this summer, but the opportunity to sign a Bellingham brother may be too good to turn down.

The 18-year-old may not be proven in the Premier League, but if he is anything like his older brother he may just take to the top level like a duck to water. Ultimately, Spurs don’t want to regret missing out on a potential generational talent.

Bellingham would offer something completely different to the likes of Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr and James Maddison and under the careful management of Postecoglou he could hit some impressive heights.

Whether or not Spurs will act on their interest this summer remains to be seen, but as Hutton suggests, the teenager will already be considering his next move and Tottenham don’t want to miss the boat.
