Tam McManus believes that Rangers do not have the funds to secure the services of Vaclav Cerny on a permanent basis.
He has urged the club to make changes and be better in the transfer market given the recent revelation at the AGM.
It has been confirmed that the club sold Sam Lammers, Connor Goldson, Todd Cantwell, Robby McCrorie and Scott Wright for a combined fee of £810,000.
He told PLZ Soccer on 7 December at 20:14: “They’ve not got the money to buy guys like Cerny who’s been excellent I think so I’ve got to find money from somewhere but in the transfer market, they’ve got to be far better than that because if they keep doing that it’s just going to be a never-ending circle of buy and high and selling low.”
Rangers need a proper overhaul of their system and it needs to happen very soon
The stark financial realities laid bare at Gers’ AGM, where the club only managed to raise £810,000 from selling five players, underscore the urgent need for a swift and comprehensive overhaul in their transfer strategy.
McManus has rightly highlighted this issue, pointing out that without significant changes, Rangers cannot afford high-calibre players like Cerny on a permanent basis, even though Clement admires him.
The cycle of buying high and selling low is detrimental to the club’s financial health and competitive standing.
Not only does the recruitment policy need a radical transformation, but the wage structure also demands scrutiny.
Gers must address how they manage player salaries to ensure they are not overpaying for underperforming assets, which could then free up funds or reduce costs, allowing for smarter investments in the transfer market.
Without these changes, the club risk perpetuating a cycle of financial inefficiency, which could widen the gap with rivals like Celtic.
In other Rangers news, the club aim to finalise the summer signing of a player they view as a long-term first-team regular.
