Pundit questions Tottenham striker target after £60m+ clause emerges

Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham to avoid signing Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke this summer after his release clause emerged.

According to The Athletic [6 June], the 26-year-old’s current contract contains a £65million release clause, which can only be triggered by certain clubs.

However, as per GiveMeSport, Spurs are unlikely to trigger Solanke’s release clause despite being in the market for a striker, and Robinson for one, is relieved about the update.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I think £60million would be overpaying for a player that’s had one decent season. He’s scored his goals in clusters and hasn’t done it over a long period of time.

“Granted, he’s got goals in the Premier League for a Bournemouth team that finished mid-table, but for me, Spurs would be overpaying. Solanke is not a £60million player.

“He’s got himself on the fringes of the international team, but if you’re going to spend that kind of money, you’d go for Ivan Toney or Sevilla’s En-Nesyri, who have proven they can score goals at the top level over a long period of time.

“Dominic Solanke is a good player and he’s scored goals in that Bournemouth side, but once you start going over the £50million or £60million mark for a player like that, I’d question it. I don’t think Spurs will enter the market at that level.”

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke

Solanke had one of his best seasons in a Bournemouth shirt, notching 19 goals and three assists in the Premier League as the Cherries finished 12th in the table.

While Spurs are still trying to fill the void left by Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich last season, Daniel Levy is never one for splashing money on a big-name transfer, and it looks like this will still be the case with Solanke.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs have been told the real price of Eberechi Eze as Crystal Palace await a transfer scrap this summer.
