Stephen McGinn has suggested that Vaclav Cerny could be struggling to settle in Scotland having been “really bothered” by criticism from Rangers fans.
The Wolfsburg loanee deleted his social media accounts having retaliated towards some supporters having been slammed for his performance during the Gers’ win over Hibernian at Ibrox.
Although the Czech international rediscovered his scoring touch in the win over St Johnstone before the international break, Go Radio pundit McGinn has suggested he may be feeling the pressure from the fans.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (10 October, 56:30) he said: “You listen to Cerny, he looks really bothered by the criticism he’s taking.
“It’s not often you see a player at Celtic or Rangers be that open. Sometimes you think he’s coming in for a lot of money, he’s not doing the business, he’s not a Rangers winger of the past, he’s missed a big chance, he’s shouting back at the fans.
“You forget that he’s maybe struggling to settle in the country, football’s meant to be the release and maybe it’s not the release for him at the moment. He’s under a lot of pressure and sometimes you need to take that into consideration.
“But it is a huge club that demands to win and it’s not going to get any easier.”
What has happened to Rangers winger Vaclav Cerny at Ibrox?
Cerny wouldn’t be the first and he most certainly wouldn’t be the last to find the move to Ibrox a difficult adjustment. It was only just over a year ago that the likes of Sam Lammers and Jose Cifuentes struggled to adapt to the Scottish game.
What has been frustrating for Rangers fans when it comes to Cerny is the fact that his quality is there for the world to see.
His two goals against St Johnstone last time out showed he can be a force to be reckoned with at this level, now he just has to find that consistency to try and iron out the big misses that have cost the Gers so far this season.
That will come in time and while he is only in Glasgow on loan, his recent displays suggest that he is beginning to settle into the team and the club.
Hopefully, the issues that McGinn has mooted are already slowly fading away in the background.
The best way for the attacker to answer his critics is with his displays on the field and the Czech international did exactly that last time out at Ibrox.
