Rangers now must “seriously look at” overseas investment via Dave King to avoid falling further behind Celtic financially, says Derek Ferguson.

The former Ibrox chair insists there is interest from the USA and Saudi Arabia and wants to return to the club on a two-year basis following John Bennett’s resignation for medical reasons [Rangers Review, 15 September].

With the past three Scottish Premiership titles heading to Parkhead and Champions League money following each time the financial gulf continues to widen, and that is showing on the pitch as well.

Rangers continue to be hit by high-level defections after director of football operations Creag Robertson’s resignation emerged [Scottish Sun, 8 October].

So amid a precarious period at Ibrox former Gers midfielder Ferguson believes the board have a responsibility to consider King’s suggestions.

Rangers could bring in US and Saudi investment at Ibrox

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “It’s something we’ve got to seriously look at and the contacts that Dave King will have, and I’m sure he has. Whether it’s Saudi Arabia, whether it’s America, the board have got to seriously think about that.

“Again, I keep saying it, you compare yourself against Celtic. They’re already sitting with a few bob in the bank and obviously their Champions League campaign got off to a great start for them [vs Slovan Bratislava].

“That’s going to bring in many, many millions, so they [the board] have certainly got to look a that.

“Because if we keep going the way that we are, and looking at some of the guys that are on board and invested, I think we’ve got to widen our horizons and look at other avenues.

“I think that’s what Dave King brings to the table, brings to the party, so I’m all for that.”
