Pundit View: Clement will have to 'Be Creative' to secure Rangers transfer for £8m star

Rangers icon Barry Ferguson has told Philippe Clement he will have to “be creative” to sign Abdallah Sima permanently this summer.

The Brighton forward has enjoyed an excellent season on loan in Glasgow, scoring 11 goals and laying on two assits in just 17 Scottish Premiership starts to be one of the Light Blues’ most productive players.

Clement confirmed that the 22-year-old was fit and ready to return against Hearts on Saturday (18 May), but Go Radio pundit Ferguson believes Rangers won’t be able to afford a permanent move for him this summer.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (17 May, 30:05) he said: “I would be lying if I said I know exactly what price tag is on his head. They’re bounding round about £6million, £7million and £8million and I think that would be too expensive.

“But look who knows, they might need to do something, they might need to be creative again to bring in money from elsewhere.”

Every Rangers fan would ideally like to Sima in light blue again next season, but there is also an acceptance that such a deal may be impossible to pull off given the potential finances involved.

Clement has spoken incredibly highly of Sima and for good reason because when fit, he has been one of the Light Blues’ most consistent performers. But the Gers don’t have £8million to throw at a single player this summer.

If the Belgian is able to shift a few of the higher earners at Ibrox to raise the funds required, such as James Tavernier and Connor Goldson, maybe then a deal could be reached but it still won’t be easy to achieve.

Hopefully, Rangers will be able to find a way to get a permanent transfer over the line, but supporters won’t be banking on seeing the Senegalese star at Ibrox next term after this latest revelation.
