Pundit View: Daniel Levy must trust Postecoglou as 'Quality' player exits Tottenham

Paul Robinson has urged Daniel Levy to trust Ange Postecoglou’s decisions after Japhet Tanganga’s Tottenham exit was confirmed.

The club confirmed [5 June] that the 25-year-old was one of four players not being offered a new deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, joining Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon at the exit door.

Tanganga spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Augsburg and Millwall, attracting interest from the Championship following his temporary spell at The Den.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “He’s not been given an opportunity. When he first came into the first team, you thought that he was a player with a lot of talent and was expected to break into the first team more than he did.

“But Daniel Levy has to trust the manager – he’s made the decision on the player. You employ a manager to do a job, so you need to give him the best tools and the best equipment available that he wants to do that job.

“You can’t judge a manager if you’re giving him players that he doesn’t want, and he is clearly someone the manager didn’t want. I think Tanganga is a good quality, young player, but he’s not been able to play regularly in the Premier League for Tottenham, being loaned out.

“He had the chance to play first-team football, he’s been watched from the outside, and he’s obviously enjoyed it because he’s excelled at that level. But from the club’s point of view, there has been a discussion over his future. And there is no future for him under Ange Postecoglou, so for him to move on is sensible.”

Ange Postecoglou to be trusted as Japhet Tanganga exits Tottenham

With Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin already at Postecoglou’s disposal, there is little room for Tanganga to make an impact, even despite his potential in defence.

Japhet Tanganga is set to leave Tottenham this summer

Having made 50 senior appearances for Spurs after graduating from the club’s academy, there was hope that Tanganga could become a regular at the Hotspur Stadium, though his career has stalled somewhat.

It will be interesting to see where the centre-half ends up during the summer transfer window.

In other Tottenham news, Youssef En-Nesyri has been tipped to bang in goals for Spurs as advanced talks held over summer transfer.
