John Wenham claims Tottenham are at risk of losing £15m-rated player for free

John Wenham believes Tottenham are at risk of losing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for free.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims now is the time for the midfielder to be moved on.

As reported by the Daily Mail (10 June), several clubs are interested in the £15million-rated Hojbjerg, including Atletico Madrid and Fenerbache.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has urged the club to sell the Dane.

“His contract expires next summer, in January he will be able to agree a pre-contract with another club,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, it is a sell-now scenario for Tottenham. If a deal isn’t agreed this summer we will lose him on a free.

“He’s been a good servant to the club, and I would actually have no issues with him staying in different contractual circumstances.

“But I think the time is right for him to go, so good luck to him.”

After several seasons as a regular with Spurs, Hojbjerg saw his role reduced last season under Ange Postecoglou.

Although he did play 36 times in the Premier League, he only started eight matches in the competition.

He will be keen to play more first-team football next season and is unlikely to refuse a transfer.

It appears that the defensive-midfielder doesn’t have much of a long-term future under Postecoglou and therefore a new contract is unlikely to be handed to him.

As a result, with his current deal set to expire next year, the club have little choice but to move Hojbjerg on this summer.
