Tottenham chief Daniel Levy will be ready to accept a £60million offer for Richarlison and reinvest that fee to sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney, according to Alan Hutton.
Ange Postecoglou is in the market for a new centre-forward this summer, with reports suggesting the England international is waiting for Spurs to submit a transfer offer ahead of the transfer deadline [talkSPORT, 23 July].
However, Richarlison could also be set to end his time in North London after just two seasons as clubs in the Saudi Pro League are understood to be considering making an offer for the Brazilian international [talkSPORT, 12 May].
Although the 27-year-old has openly admitted he doesn’t want to leave the Lilywhites, Hutton believes he could be forced out of Postecoglou’s side as he doesn’t expect Spurs to reject a big-money offer.
“If we’re talking about £60million then I don’t think so,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.
“They would then reinvest that into a striker and they’ll have their options there A, B and C and they’ll go for their top target if Richarlison was to leave.
“The only problem is, when does he go? If this were to rumble on until the back end of the transfer window then it becomes a little bit more difficult.
“If it happens sooner rather than later and Tottenham can go and get whoever they like then it would be ideal.
“I like Richarlison, but he’s just got that kind of moodiness about him where you don’t really know what you’re going to get. One minute he can be brilliant, the next minute you might not see him.
“I just never felt that he was going to be the guy who would, not fill Harry Kane’s boots but be the guy to score 20-plus goals.
“I just don’t feel like he’s that guy whereas I feel Toney can be.”
Will Richarlison exit Tottenham amid Ivan Toney transfer rumours?
As Hutton suggests, Richarlison has shown several moments of promise in a Spurs shirt, but there has been little to suggest the 27-year-old will ever be a 20-goal-a-season striker in the Premier League.
Through a combination of injuries and poor form last term, the Brazil international was outscored by Son Heung-min, who also missed large portions of the campaign as he competed with South Korea in the Asia Cup.
Toney’s record at Brentford shows that he is more than equipped to fire the Lilywhites back into the top four next season and he did manage to score 21 goals the season before last.
If Tottenham need to get Richarlison off of their books to fund a move for the England international, they will almost certainly be more than willing to sanction his sale.
