Tottenham chief Daniel Levy will likely prioritise a deal for a new striker this summer ahead of signing Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, according to Alan Hutton.
The Eagles star has reportedly caught the eye of Ange Postecoglou’s side in the lead-up to the transfer window and he is understood to have a release clause worth £60million in his contract at Selhurst Park [Daily Mail, 7 June].
While the Whites are known admirers of the England international, they also remain in the market for a new centre-forward as they continue to look for a genuine replacement for Harry Kane ahead of the new season.
Although Hutton believes the signing of Eze would help the Lilywhites break back into the top four of the Premier League, he thinks Levy will instead spend the majority of his transfer budget bolstering his frontline.
“He’s so good,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.
“He and Michail Olise were just frightening how they were ripping teams apart and for defenders playing against these guys it is just a nightmare.
“They can go both ways, they can play a one-two, they can see a pass.
“They can literally do everything so to have somebody like that in your ranks of course makes you a better team and it makes you challenge for the top four because that’s going to be the remit.
“To have a player like that makes it a little bit more easy.
“Whether they’re going to be able to afford to pay that sort of money, I’m not so sure because I still believe the striker situation needs to be tied up at Tottenham.”
Will Tottenham sign Eberechi Eze in the transfer window amid Crystal Palace exit speculation?
Spurs supporters would love to see both a new centre-forward and Eze arrive this summer, but Levy has never run Tottenham in that manner and it would be a surprise if he were to spend big on two new additions.
Strikers never come cheap and while it remains slightly unclear who the Lilywhites are pursuing at this moment in time, a deal for a genuine Kane replacement will likely cost the same as a move for the Palace star.
If there is some movement out of North London to generate some further funds, maybe Levy’s stance on this potential double deal could change.
However, at this stage of the window, it seems incredibly unlikely.
