Pundit View: Tottenham could form relationship with Scottish side after coaching additions

Paul Robinson believes Tottenham could form a relationship with Hibernian following new additions to Ange Postecoglou’s coaching staff.

The club announced [25 June] that Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo have joined as assistant coaches ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, partnering up with Ryan Mason, Mile Jedinak and Rob Burch.

Both additions have previous experience with Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership, and Robinson has faith that Spurs can build a new relationship through these links.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “Nick Montgomery was a youngster at Leeds when I was there, and he went on to have a good career at Sheffield United. He’s a highly-thought-of coach.

“The managerial opportunity up in Scotland probably came too early for him, but at a club like Tottenham, he’ll be able to grow and learn. He’s obviously highly-thought-of to get that experience.

“He did extremely well over in Australia, and he’s only grown as a coach since then. To have someone like that involved with the club is good, and the links to Hibernian are clearly now there. It’s a good acquisition to make for him and the club.”

Club relationships can be extremely important, especially when it comes to academy players securing vital loan spells away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Scottish Premiership is a very competitive league, where youngsters can go to earn their stripes and develop before returning to Spurs with the hope of breaking into the first team.

The addition of Montgomery to Postecoglou’s team could be more important than many fans realise, with so much going on behind the scenes.

While it is not an appointment that will have many fans on the edge of their seats, with it not being an anticipated transfer story, Postecoglou himself will likely be excited by Montgomery and Raimundo’s arrivals.
