Ange Postecoglou would be wise to replace Tottenham forward Dejan Kulusevski at half-time against Newcastle United.

It was a first half of few chances at St James’ Park on Sunday (1 September).

Other than Newcastle striking the woodwork early on, neither team was able to offer much threat in the final third, up until the 37th minute when Harvey Barnes opened the scoring for the hosts.

Spurs dominated most of the ball, but Postecoglou’s side were unable to make that possession count, with Barnes punishing the away side late in the first half.

If Postecoglou wants to get his side back into the game then he needs to hook Kulusevski at the break.

Kulusevski has been asked to lead the line in place of Dominic Solanke and Richarlison.

However, he has struggled to impact the game through the middle. The Swede has managed just 18 touches while completing 89 per cent of his passes (Sofascore).

Zero per cent of Kulusevski’s crosses into the box have been accurate, while he has also only won one of his four ground duels, and given possession away six times.

In addition, the 24-year-old has failed with his one dribble attempt and has been dribbled past once.

While Postecoglou’s options are limited on the bench, moving Son Heung-min through the middle and playing Brennan Johnson out wide might prove to be more effective in the second half.
