Alejo Veliz looks set for a bright future after the Tottenham loanee scored a last-minute winner for Espanyol on Saturday 31 August.

The Argentina Under 20 international grabbed his first goal of the season in LaLiga, securing all three points with a 96th minute winner.

His new manager, Manolo González was full of praise for the 20-year-old in his post-match interview, as transcribed by SPORT.

He said: “He has a great future in European football. He is very young and he has to go through a toll that we all have to go through.

“He will continue to grow and every day we will see a better player.”

The youngster signed from Rosario Central in 2023 has taken to life for Espanyol like a duck to water after a quiet loan spell with Sevilla in the second half of last season.

The striker has already started four times and now has his first goal for his new club with a dramatic last-minute winner against Rayo Vallecano.

His performance deserved a goal given his work ethic despite only having 34 touches of the ball throughout the match [FotMob].

Veliz still managed to get three shots off in that time with the final one finding the top scorer to spark wild scenes.

The Argentine was able to link up with his teammates well, keeping up a 75 per cent pass accuracy with two being made into the final third.

He also made his presence felt going the other way with a block, two clearances and nine duels won, playing his part to keep the score down.

There was a lot to enjoy about his performance for the Parakeets and Spurs fans will be awaiting his return to North London to see what he can offer Ange Postecoglou’s side.
