Pundit View: Tottenham may have to take £20m hit to sell player

Paul Robinson believes Tottenham may have to take a financial hit if Richarlison is to leave the club this summer unless he moves to Saudi Arabia.

According to Football London [24 June], Spurs would listen to offers for the Brazilian forward due to his recent injury record, which has seen him miss 20 matches across the past two seasons.

The 27-year-old has notched 15 goals and eight assists since making the £60million move from Everton in June 2022, a fee that Robinson believes will be difficult to recoup this summer [Sky Sports].

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “As far as valuation goes, the £60million they paid for him, they get their money back from Saudi Arabia.

“If he goes elsewhere in Europe, Spurs will take a hit, probably looking around £40million.”

Tottenham to lose money on Richarlison investment

Daniel Levy rarely splashes the cash when it comes to transfers, and Richarlison’s spell at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will only prove his point further.

While the Brazilian is a fan favourite among some, he has failed to reach the expectations set by himself, only registering 15 goals in two seasons at the club.

With Spurs still on the search for an out-and-out striker, to fill the void left by Harry Kane, the sale of Richarlison could certainly help fund that but they will be unlikely to make a profit this summer.

The Lilywhites have been linked with several strikers so far this transfer window, including the likes of Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri and Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke, though both come with a decent price tag.

Ange Postecoglou is still in the process of building his team ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, having been given a group of players who do not all fit his style of play. That could see Richarlison face an exit this summer.
