Rangers 1st-team ace in talks over transfer exit - report

Ridvan Yilmaz is in talks with Besiktas over move to link up with his former Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst, according to Turkiye Gazete.

The Turkish outlet reported on their website on 18 June that with Nantes seen as certain to sign Arthur Masuaku this summer, with a new bid on the way, the Istanbul club will replace him by bringing their former defender back from Ibrox.

Cash generated by selling Masuaku will be used towards a deal to bring in Yilmaz, with new Besiktas boss Van Bronckhorst giving a move for his former player the green light.

Yilmaz, has been repeatedly linked with a return to the Turkish Super Lig since he arrived at Ibrox two years ago as a Van Bronckhorst signing.

His agent has claimed that the 23-year-old isn’t looking to move back to his home country [Gökmen Özcan, 10 June], but it appears to be a possibility anyway.

Will Philippe Clement let Rangers defender follow Borna Barisic out of Glasgow?

Borna Barisic’s contract has been allowed to expire and he is widely expected to head to Turkey to join up with John Lundstram at Trabzonspor.

Philippe Clement has already completed the signing of Jefte to restock at left-back but are still interested in a deal to add Thomas Galdames on top [Daily Record, 29 May], which suggests the possibility of Yilmaz leaving as well isn’t out of the question.

The manager was seemingly ready to let the Turkish international leave in January if the right offer came in, despite him finally having established himself as the first choice at Ibrox.

Since then, his injury absence following the final international break of the season proved to be a huge blow as the Rangers campaign came off the rails.

Having missed the majority of his debut campaign in Scotland as well he is one of many Gers players who it has proven impossible to rely on fitness-wise.

Borna Barisic
Borna Barisic has also left Rangers this summer already.

Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe have both been allowed to leave for nothing as a result, while the likes of Kieran Dowell could depart as well for the same reason.

So despite Yilmaz demonstrating his ability at times when he has been available it would be no shock for Clement to cash in and look to replace him with his own target.

In other Rangers news, one exit-linked figure is now staying at Ibrox for next season despite an expiring contract situation.
