Rangers have dismissed Blaine McConnell just days after hiring him as their new head of marketing, according to FollowFollow.
The reliable Gers outlet, who have strong links with the club, reported via their official X account on Wednesday (14 August) that McConnell, who turned out to be a Celtic fan, was “brought in on a short-term consultancy contract”. However, it is understood that he’s now left Ibrox after just two days in the role.
It had earlier emerged that McConnell is a Celtic fan with old social media posts coming to light.
Rangers in yet another high-level blunder
It’s just been one thing after another, hasn’t it?
Normally, it wouldn’t matter which team someone supported when they were hired in behind-the-scenes roles. However, in Glasgow, it’s a bit different.
McConnell was reportedly hired on a consultancy basis but that’s irrelevant. The club still contracted him without doing their due diligence.
Understandably, there was a huge reaction on social media after it emerged that McConnell is a Celtic supporter.
It’s nothing against the guy himself, he was just out to do some work and would have more than likely done the job in a professional manner.
But it’s just an absolute PR own goal by the club and it’s always going to open up speculation about a person if he or she is found to be working at Ibrox and follow the other team in Glasgow.
In other Rangers news, Jason Cundy made an outlandish prediction about the Gers on talkSPORT.
