Rangers game set to move as 'Logistical nightmare' emerges - report

The SPFL are set to move Rangers’ Scottish Premiership clash against St Johnstone to the evening of Sunday 6 October to solve a “logistical nightmare”, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported via its website [4 September] that, with Philippe Clement’s side hosting Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday 3 October, their league game must be moved from Saturday 5 October.

However, this is set to cause more issues as runners prepare for the Great Scottish Run around Glasgow, which will block all major access roads to Ibrox, with the latest set of runners beginning at 11.37 am.

This could see the Gers’ match changed to a 5 pm start, or even an 8 pm start, which is far from ideal for the home faithful and travelling Saints fans.

Rangers set for logistical nightmare ahead of St Johnstone clash

Trouble has followed Clement’s squad everywhere they have travelled so far this season, whether it be the redevelopment issues at Ibrox, being knocked out of Champions League qualification or facing defeat in the Old Firm derby.

The “logistical nightmare” associated with the St Johnstone game is the last thing the Gers need in an already uncomfortable campaign, but at least there is positive news about returning to Ibrox.

While Hampden Park has been a safe temporary home for the Light Blues since the 2024/25 season began, the same atmosphere that is generated at Ibrox cannot be created there.

Fans are desperate to get back to Ibrox and support their team, but more frustration is emerging instead with a rude awakening ahead if things don’t improve.

This is just another problem to solve in a problematic campaign and one that is unlikely to have a solution that suits all parties on the day.
