Rangers pull plug on striker deal - Ibrox Sources

Hull City and Middlesbrough are both in talks over a deal for Bristol City’s Tommy Conway, sources have told Football Insider.

The two Championship clubs are competing to sign the 21-year-old, who has been frozen out of Bristol City’s first-team squad after a fallout with the club’s hierarchy.

Rangers were also interested in the striker, but the £5million+ price tag is out of their range.

The Scottish giants are in the market for a striker before the window closes, but their financial issues have made this deal impossible.

Hull have tabled a bid worth up to £5m for Conway, but Middlesbrough are still pushing hard to make a deal happen.

Burnley have also joined the race to sign him, as sources say that the Clarets are also keen on him.

Conway was Bristol City’s top goalscorer last season as he found the back of the net 12 times in all competitions to catch the eye of other clubs.

The striker has been at Bristol City since he was seven, but he has recently been banished to the Under-21s team.

Staff and players have reportedly been upset with how Liam Manning has treated him as Conway now heads to the exit door.

Conway only has one year left on his contract, making this Bristol City’s final transfer window to cash in on him.

With the Championship season getting underway this weekend, the chasing parties will hope to get a deal over the line immediately.
