Revealed: Liverpool tell 21-yr-old to find new club

Liverpool have told Billy Koumetio he is free to leave the club this month, sources have told Football Insider.

The 21-year-old does not feature in Arne Slot’s plans moving forward and was left out of the club’s pre-season tour of America.

Multiple EFL and Scottish clubs are interested in the central defender and want to sign him before the 31st August deadline.

Sources claim that a permanent deal for Koumetio is expected to be done before the window closes.

The young defender is out of contract next summer, with Liverpool opting to cash in on him.

Koumetio spent last season out on loan, playing the first half for Dunkerque before moving to Blackburn Rovers from February.

Although he’s made 49 appearances for Liverpool’s Under-21s team, Koumetio has only featured twice for the first team.

Koumetio also struggled for minutes last season, featuring nine times for Dunkerque and only once for Blackburn.

The youngster is now focusing on trying to kickstart his career by playing regularly away from Anfield.

Slot had been interested in signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in this transfer window.

However, Football Insider reported that the England international is too expensive for Liverpool.
