Rangers receive new transfer bid for senior star - report

Rangers received a new bid for James Tavernier over the weekend as the captain closes in on an Ibrox exit, according Rangers Review.

Joshua Barrie reported via the outlet’s website on 23 July that Trabzonspor have delivered their updated offer for the full-back after the Light Blues rejected the initial bid.

Tavernier is believed to have already agreed personal terms with the Turkish Super Lig side where he would join up with former Gers teammates John Lundstram and Borna Barisic.

He hasn’t featured at all so far during the preseason under Philippe Clement due to reported injury during the Dutch training camp along with fellow exit-linked man Todd Cantwell [Andy Devlin, 12 July].

Dujon Sterling set to replace captain as Rangers right-back

Tavernier has been linked with a move away ever since Steven Gerrard got a job with Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League but while the former manager is believed to be interested it looks like he won’t get a reunion.

The writing appears to be on the wall thanks to the 32-year-old remaining out of action throughout the preseason.

He may be carrying a minor knock but as one of the few Rangers players who isn’t constantly ruled out by injury that would be uncharacteristic.

If he is on the brink of a move none of the parties involved will want to risk something jeopardising that, especially not at Ibrox where Philippe Clement needs to make sales before he can buy new players [Rangers Review, 13 July].

Dujon Sterling Rangers
Dujon Sterling is set to take over from James Tavernier as the new Rangers right-back.

The Belgian looks set to get a good chunk of space on the wage bill once Tavernier’s exit goes through, and Connor Goldson could soon follow if links to Aris Limassol in Cyprus prove accurate.

Clement has barely got half way through his transfer overhaul with the season almost upon him but high-profile exits should signal the next phase of activity this summer.

In other Rangers news, the most talented attacking player in the Ibrox squad is wanted for a move to England.
