Rangers stance on Tavernier and Goldson emerges as Gerrard eyes reunion in Saudi - report

Rangers duo James Tavernier and Connor Goldson are not expected to leave the pre-season training camp in the Netherlands, according to the Daily Record.

The news outlet cited Saudi Arabian channel Al-Riyadiya on 12 July after they claimed that Steven Gerrard wanted to bring the two defenders to Al-Ettifaq.

It’s understood that he’s put in a “special request” at his club in order to bring two Gers defenders to the Middle East.

Rangers must demand huge money for James Tavernier and Connor Goldson

Both players are integral to the squad, with Tavernier serving as the captain and Goldson as a reliable defender so the club would not want to sell them on the cheap.

Losing them would require significant investment to find suitable replacements.

Saudi Arabian clubs, including Al-Ettifaq, have shown a willingness to spend large sums on players.

This financial capacity puts the Scottish side in a strong negotiating position, allowing them to command a high transfer fee.

Moreover, the interest from Gerrard adds an emotional element to the potential transfers.

The Liverpool legend’s desire to reunite with his former players could lead to a bidding war, further increasing the value of Tavernier and Goldson.

With Saudi clubs eager to bolster their squads with proven talent, Gers should capitalise on this opportunity to secure a significant financial windfall, which could be reinvested in the team.

In other Rangers news, a £2.5m bid is being readied with Gers now in advanced talks to secure yet another transfer.
