Rangers manager Philippe Clement has dropped a major update on Oscar Cortes ahead of the clash with Nice on Thursday.
The 20-year-old has not featured since the 3-0 victory over Dundee in the Premier Sports Cup on 21 September.
The Colombian rejoined the Gers on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy next summer after suffering a season-ending muscle injury against Kilmarnock in February.
While he is not ready to return for the Nice contest (28 November), it appears that he is finally set to return soon with Clement providing a positive update in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday (27 November), saying: “We had big period with injuries last season. Oscar (Cortes) did his first part of training today – it will be a few weeks before he can play but is positive.
“Lawrence and Matondo are also close and will return in a few weeks which is a positive.”
Oscar Cortes update is promising for Rangers
The Colombian forward had three contributions in seven matches for the Light Blues last season before injury ended his promising campaign.
The Gers are in desperate need of more goals, with three wins, two draws and one loss in their last six matches.
Those results have only served to increase the pressure on Clement, with his future at Ibrox seemingly on an inevitable path to the sack.
It is unlikely that the Belgian manager can turn the situation around even if Cortes can come straight into the side and make things happen.
However, long-term it is a promising development, before his move to Scotland, the youngster had scored three goals and notched one assist in six games for the Lens B team and had even notched two contributions for the senior team in four Ligue 1 matches.
The club needs some positive news at the moment and the return of one of their most exciting talents will definitely boost supporters morale a little bit.
In other Rangers news, an Ibrox transfer has been mooted for this international striker with 207 career goals.
