'Wonder' emerges in Premier League over Everton takeover after Man City legal move - report

Everton and the developments around their takeover are understood to have caused wonder in the Premier League, according to the Independent.

The news outlet reported on 9 October that a number of clubs have been infuriated by the decision of the Manchester City case with the league – one which the Toffees were in favour of.

That development has led to doubts emerging about the outlook at Goodison Park changing once the takeover goes through.

The report reads: “This is said to have infuriated a high number of clubs, while even causing surprise in some of those that had more sympathy to City’s position. Clubs that acted as witnesses for the repeat champions were Chelsea, Newcastle United and Everton, with Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa known to be at least more understanding of their views.

“There is also wonder in the Premier League over whether Everton’s change of ownership to the Friedkin Group will alter the outlook at Goodison Park. All of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton and West Ham United meanwhile offered witness testimony for the Premier League.”

The Premier League’s apparent scepticism towards the Toffees, even before the Friedkin Group’s takeover is completed, suggests an underlying agenda or bias possibly influenced by the Manchester City case and Everton’s stance on it.
