Rangers star on brink of Ibrox exit last night - report

James Tavernier could now be set to leave Rangers after being absent from the squad against Manchester United, according to the Sunday Post.

Danny Stewart reported on the back page of the newspaper on 21 July that the 32-year-old is being chased by Trabzonspor.

The Turkish side has already had one bid rejected and is preparing a “new and improved” second offer”.

The Englishman missed the Gers’ friendly clash against Manchester United at Murrayfield on Saturday (20 July) which only added to the transfer rumours.

The Light Blues fell to a 2-0 defeat against the Red Devils with Philippe Clement picking a strong starting XI on the day.

The Belgian was without his captain on the day but he couldn’t answer why that was the case as he reportedly rushed off to a family wedding.

This saw first-team coach Alex Rae speak out on the right back but he suggested that he had “no idea” about any offer [The Scottish Sun].

There has certainly been one offer from Trabzonspor and now they look set to keep up their interest with another offer.

The Super Lig side already has a good president for signing players from Ibrox with John Lundstram and Borna Barisic already making the switch.

It has to be said that Clement may feel that a sale could allow him to reinvest in his squad ahead of the Scottish Premiership and Champions League campaign beginning.

But on the other hand, Tavernier is up there with the most important player at Ibrox, so his sale could represent a large risk.
