Rangers submit offer to sign player who's been axed from XI after deciding to quit - report

Rangers have made an offer to sign Colombian winger Edier Ocampo, according to Fichajes.

The Latin American news outlet reported via their website on Thursday (25 July) that Ocampo, 20, is “one of the most talked about names in Colombian football” at the moment after announcing that he’s leaving Atletico Nacional.

It is understood that the Colombia youth international was left out of Nacional’s last game against Millonarios (24 July) with offers flying in for him from Europe.

Fichajes claims that Rangers, Toulouse and Hellas Verona have all made moves to sign the right-sided flyer, who can play at right-back or on the right wing. He’s also said to have received offers from the MLS.

Rangers find replacement for James Tavernier

Rangers’ club captain Tavernier is strongly linked with a move away from Ibrox this summer, so Philippe Clement will probably need to bring in a new right-back.

Ocampo can play at right-back but for Nacional, he’s mainly played in the attack this season, scoring three goals and supplying one assist in 21 league appearances between January and July.

However, he’s been left out of his side’s most recent game against Millonarios, which is a massive game in Colombia, suggesting that he’s pretty much finished as a player in Medellin.

But if Ocampo was a Tavernier replacement, it would be an almost like-for-like change due to the fact that he loves to get forward.

According to Fichajes, the 20-year-old has the “ability to break through and create offensive plays” while it’s said that Rangers – and other interested clubs – “value his ability to influence the game from the wings, his speed and his vision of the game”.

Ocampo sounds like a promising young player and Colombia can be a bit of a hot bed of young talent in South America.

Ibrox has already played host to one great Colombian in recent years so why not have another?

In other Rangers news, a £4.2million loan-to-buy deal has been agreed at Ibrox.
