Rangers-supporting ace linked to 'Surreal' Ibrox transfer expected to move this summer - report

Harry Souttar is expected to leave Leicester City this summer amid heavy links to a Rangers move, according to Football Scotland.

The outlet reported on 9 June that the Australian defender grew up a Gers fan and is likely to depart the King Power after struggling for football with the Foxes under now-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

The 25-year-old has made just 16 total appearances for Leicester in 18 months after signing from Stoke and has was said to be ready to join the Light Blues a year ago but a saw a move blocked when Ben Davies wasn’t sold [The 4th Official, 31 August].

Souttar, brother of Ibrox centre-back John, admits he would be looking to leave if the Italian Maresca was still in place but suggests he now has to wait to see who comes in.

He said, via Football Scotland (9 June): “It’d be very clear if he was still there, my situation; to try and leave the club and get more minutes because I’ve lost out on a lot of football. To still be selected for the national team I know I need to be playing football.

“I just have to wait to see what the club does and who comes in and then to try to impress the new manager that comes in. When I get back for pre-season, we’ll probably have a sit down after a few weeks and have a chat and see where we’re at.

“I think that’s the best thing to do. Obviously, we don’t have a manager yet. So I don’t know and I can’t comment or speculate on who it’s going to be. But I’ve just got to give myself the best shot of trying to impress him and the staff that will come in as well. We’ll just go from there.”

John Souttar to line up beside his brother at Rangers?

Michael Beale wanting someone is a lot different from Philippe Clement wanting them and the Belgian has already demonstrated a focus towards younger overseas signings, particularly South American ones.

He has seemingly been looking to address his defensive inconsistency in the same way amid links to Thomas Galdames after the pursuit of Jose Cordoba fell through.

The fact that Souttar is likely available, is well-disposed towards the club, and would be joining his brother at Ibrox, potentially makes the former Stoke man a unique case.

Ibrox News pundit Derek Ferguson is big fan of the “surreal” possibility that the two siblings could play side by side for Rangers.

John Souttar established himself as a Rangers regular last season under Philippe Clement.

A major deciding factor on the six foot seven giant is clearly going to be whoever Leicester appoint to succeed Maresca, and having splashed out £15million for him two Januarys ago [BBC Sport] they may want to get a decent financial return on that having failed to do so on the pitch.

That might make him too expensive for the Light Blues to do a permanent deal, but the possibility of a loan in Glasgow could feasibly arise later in the transfer window.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues would love a deal to bring back an attacking weapon who “showed his worth” to the club already.
