Rangers told to accept ‘significant’ Ridvan Yilmaz offer - McAvennie

Rangers should cash in on Ridvan Yilmaz if a hefty offer arrives for the Turkish international, according to Frank McAvennie.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic forward McAvennie says Rangers should adopt the model their city rivals have done, in developing players and selling for a high sum.

Football Insider revealed on 16 June that the Gers are standing firm on Yilmaz and would not be allowing the left-back to leave Ibrox this summer, despite interest from his former club Besiktas in his homeland – who have recently appointed ex-Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Yilmaz arrived for an initial £3.4m fee in 2022, and may be tempted by a return to Turkiye.

Rangers may be forced to cash in on Yilmaz

Contracted until 2027, Rangers remain in possession of a strong hand regarding Yilmaz, but the 23-year-old is likely to recoup the club their biggest profit should he return to Besiktas – or head elsewhere – this summer.

The trouble for Philippe Clement’s side is that the volume of player turnover is already high enough in this transfer window without the need for selling regulars with years left on their deals – but McAvennie is of a different standpoint.

“The biggest problem for the fans is that I’m not sure they can afford not to [sell for a good fee],” he said.

“Rangers are starting again, basically. Celtic have done great over the years in bringing through players and selling them for £20m and things like that.

“That is good business. Rangers have got to start doing that, keep players for a couple of years and sell them – that’s the way business is.

“I wouldn’t say Yilmaz has exactly set the world alight, so I’d say the majority of fans would be fine with him going if the club can get a significant fee.”

In other news, Connor Goldson could be set for a reunion with Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia.
