Lucas Leiva says Arsenal have a small player who’s actually really strong

Lucas Leiva played with some incredible players during his career.

The Brazilian was lucky enough to play alongside the likes of Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard during his time at Liverpool, while he was also able to call Arsenal’s Raheem Sterling a teammate at one point.

Speaking to Fubo, Lucas has been asked to describe a number of his former teammates using just one word, and he gave an interesting answer when he had to describe Sterling.

Indeed, Lucas says that he’d describe Sterling as a powerful player, claiming that while he isn’t the tallest, he’s actually a very strong player.

Raheem Sterling is deceptively strong

Lucas shared his verdict on Sterling as a player.

While Martin Skrtel used the word ‘pace’ to describe Sterling, Lucas went the opposite way and said ‘power’.

The midfielder says that while Sterling isn’t a tall player, he actually has a lot of strength.

“I’m going to ask you to describe some of your former teammates with just one word, Raheem Sterling?” Lucas was asked.

“I will say power, he was quite strong, he’s not that tall, but he’s really strong, really strong,” Lucas said.

What Kyle Walker has said about Sterling’s strength

When you look at Raheem Sterling, you don’t necessarily see a strong player, but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard such comments about Sterling.

Indeed, Kyle Walker also stated that Sterling is a very strong player a few years ago.

“He’s deceptively [strong]. You don’t know how strong he is. He is so strong to try move off the ball,” Walker said.

Standing at just 5 ft 8, one may think that Sterling is easy to bully off the ball, but he does have that low centre of gravity and ability to hold of an opponent even when he’s running at full speed.

Sterling hasn’t quite got going yet at Arsenal after his deadline day arrival from Chelsea, but given his incredible attributes, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the England international found some form before too long.

Sterling has plenty to offer in this Arsenal team, that’s for sure.
