Report: Man United readying approach for 'extremely quick' young striker faster than Trent Alexander-Arnold

Manchester United are currently struggling in the Premier League and could well look to the January transfer window to bring in reinforcements.

The Red Devils continue to have significant pull in the market, bringing in such top talents as Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee last summer.

Now, Manchester United are said to have set their sights on a young striker likened to Manchester City star Erling Haaland and who is quicker than Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Manchester United ‘moving’ towards Benjamin Sesko

According to Tuttojuve, Man United are ‘moving’ towards RB Leipzig and Slovenia star Benjamin Sesko.

The report explains how the 21-year-old is starting to draw admirers from across the continent in wake of his excellent start to the season.

Tuttojuve have covered this story as they suggest that, should Man United land Sesko, they could release Zirkzee on loan to Juventus.

The Daily Mail have also reported that the Red Devils hold an interest in Sesko, and they speculate that he is expected to leave RB Leipzig next summer.

A few months ago, Sesko penned a contract extension at the club that removed a €65million (£54million) release clause that was in the previous contract.

As per TEAMtalk, the new contract has a new – and unspecified – release clause, but the player is said to have a gentleman’s agreement with the club that could allow him to leave in 2025.

Who is Manchester United target Benjamin Sesko?

Sesko is a 21-year-old professional footballer who plies his trade for German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig and represents Slovenia at international level.

He has been a sensation for Leipzig since joining from Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg in 2023.

Sesko has clocked up 29 goals and 11 assists from 79 appearances, including six goals and three assists this term.

The Bundesliga website noted how Sesko has been compared to Haaland, which the Man United target has welcomed.

Leipzig head coach Marco Rose is quoted by the website as saying: “Benjamin has huge potential. He’s getting better all the time – in training and in matches.”

Meanwhile, Leipzig technical director Christopher Vivell said: “Benjamin Sesko is among the game’s top young talents and has enormous potential to become a top player.

“He has all the qualities to do that. He’s extremely quick, has a great jump on him and is strong in the air.

“Benjamin is a real goalscorer, who despite his 1.95m (6’4″) is mobile and technically strong. His abilities make him a special player with a special profile.”

Sky Sports noted how Sesko’s top speed last season was 35.47km/h. By comparison, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold has managed 34.7km/h this term (BBC Sport).
