'Red Flag' - Ian Darke slams John Textor, says Everton man will be alarmed

Everton will suffer if John Textor interferes with Sean Dyche’s management if he completes his takeover, says Ian Darke.

Textor is ramping up his approach to strike a deal with Farhad Moshiri to acquire the Toffees owner’s 94.1 per cent controlling stake in the club and has been brazen with his public intentions on Merseyside, to the ire of many.

Among the American businessman’s items on the agenda appears to be that he will discuss on-field matters with Dyche, which TNT Sports commentator Darke is against and describes as a “red flag”.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Darke said: “It’s absolutely a red flag, it’s very unwise from Textor and I think it would alarm Sean Dyche.

“Does he want to sit down with him and talk about the style of play and team selection? No – that should be left to the professionals. What every manager wants, especially at that kind of level, is for a new owner to come in and give them support.

“Maybe it’s an old-fashioned view, but it sounds a bit like meddling. We’ve seen it at other clubs, and Dyche and Everton could do without it.”

John Textor causing controversy with Everton comments

Textor has certainly caused ripples in the waves regarding his pursuit of Everton, and has provoked the likes of Simon Jordan and Alan Pardew this week with how he has publicly challenged Dyche [talkSPORT, 15 September].

Dyche was accused by Textor of only being able to motivate English players as opposed to those from overseas, and reports have linked the would-be owner with a move to sack the current manager and bring in his own man, Palmeiras boss Abel Ferreira [Daily Mirror, 12 September].

The Toffees chief is ignoring the “outside noise” and continuing in his search of a first Premier League point of the campaign, with Leicester City next up this weekend.

Realistically, it is the only considered approach a manager can take when so much chaos is ensuing above him, and what Textor has been saying is hardly going to fill any manager with long-term confidence.

Textor claimed he would not be getting involved in the managerial situation at Goodison before completing a takeover, though his comments in recent days have contradicted that as they have sparked plenty of discourse [TBR Football, 13 September].

While there are reservations over the potential arrival of Textor – who must still sell his 45% stake in fellow Premier League competitor Crystal Palace – the Toffees must move on from the Moshiri era for any chance of real progress.

In other Everton news, two new signings are playing a major role in keeping Dyche’s job secure.
