Report: Arsenal now keen on signing 'lethal' £30m Jonathan David alternative in January

Arsenal missed out on signing a new striker in the summer but just weeks after the window slammed shut, the Gunners are already being linked with forwards for January.

The Gunners once again opted to strengthen in other key areas as the likes of Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino jetted in.

However, there is still a feeling that Arsenal missed a trick not signing a new number nine, despite the making a late move to sign Raheem Sterling on loan.

And while Theo Walcott has suggested Sterling and Arsenal are perfect for each other, Arsenal are also being linked with a move for Jonathan David.

But with David a man in-demand and likely to have other suitors, Arsenal are also looking at alternatives.

And one of those alternatives is Dutch forward, Brian Brobbey.

Arsenal could make move to sign Brian Brobbey

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Arsenal are indeed looking at a number of strikers.

It’s claimed in the report that Lille star David is the priority for Arsenal right now in the winter window.

However, it’s also suggested that Dutch forward Brian Brobbey is a player of interest for the Gunners and their manager, Mikel Arteta.

Of course, it was only a few months back that it was suggested Arsenal had a confidence over signing Brobbey at some point in the future.

Now, then, they could well prove those reports right by swooping in January.

Brobbey not what Arsenal need

At the end of the day, anyone coming into this Arsenal squad now needs to be improving the first XI, or at least really pushing at it.

Brian Brobbey, while still only 22, might not be that man just yet.

Yes, he did score 22 goals last season and the Arsenal scouts might look at that and feel he can bring something they’re missing.

However, he is not yet at that proven level of many others in world football and to get to the next level, Arsenal might need better.

Brobbey has been described as a ‘lethal‘ operator in the past and around £30m, isn’t overly expensive.

But Arsenal have to get their next signing right in attack and that means there might be others out there instead of Brobbey.
